Christmas Eve was very busy what with last minute food shopping, cleaning, washing, ironing, etc, never mind all the planning for the Christmas Day feast. By the time dinner came around I wasn't really in full-on Chez Watson creative mode so went for something simple.
I'd treated Mr W to the biggest rib eye I've possibly seen from our local butcher, and I got the usual fillet.
I knew we'd be eating lots of veg on Christmas Day so I didn't worry too much about veg with the steak. I made a creamy sauce with mushrooms (fresh plus dried porcini), shallots, brandy and double cream (may as well start pushing the boat out, right?) and served it with parpadelle pasta (the good stuff from Waitrose, think I've mentioned it before) and some julienne courgettes fried in butter. Some simple leaves to garnish and voila.... Tasty Christmas Eve dinner, and not too much stress at all.
I was in bed before midnight, sober and ready for the battle to commence at 7am...
About Me
- Feebs
- I'm a thirty something food-loving professional who has decided to write a food blog rather than bore my Facebook friends with my constant food updates and photos. I love food and cooking and wanted to share my recipes and experiences with fellow-minded people. I am no chef but enjoy good, hearty traditional fayre at home and the occasional treat away from home. I am learning all the time and this blog will hopefully see my skills improve over time. It is documenting my progress if you like and giving me some motivation to improve.
