About Me

My photo
I'm a thirty something food-loving professional who has decided to write a food blog rather than bore my Facebook friends with my constant food updates and photos. I love food and cooking and wanted to share my recipes and experiences with fellow-minded people. I am no chef but enjoy good, hearty traditional fayre at home and the occasional treat away from home. I am learning all the time and this blog will hopefully see my skills improve over time. It is documenting my progress if you like and giving me some motivation to improve.

Welcome Back!

I've been a bit slack lately with this blog so apologies, it's the busiest time of year at work with the new Spring/Summer range going live and it's manic!  Haven't been to the gym nearly as often (although I did 10k on the treadmill last week, very pleased with that) and I also had a bit of a cold last week so made a few different soups and not been as active in the kitchen as usual.

I am also very annoyed with myself because my brother and his family are over from Australia at the moment and I had them over for dinner last Sunday and only took two photos - of the awesome rib of beef and cauliflower cheese, pre-cooking.

I cooked it with Chez Watson cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes, roasted carrots and parsnips, tender stem broccoli and peas, and gravy,  It was fabulous!!  We had Toblerone mousse for dessert and a cheese board.  I didn't bother with a starter as the Aus contingent were jet lagged so didn't want to over-face them.  Had a wonderful afternoon/evening with some great wines and port, and coffee and French truffles to finish, and a good old catch up.  My 9-year-old niece is adorable, I've missed her so much!  Sky sat on her knee happily all evening :)

I've cooked some good soup lately.  A spicy butternut squash, leek and potato, broccoli and stilton, and a vegetable soup from the left over veg from Sunday which was surprisingly good.  Photos to follow in next post, along with other bits and pieces cooked in my long absence.

Exciting news!!!  I am taking part in a cookery class at Dilli in Altrincham next Saturday and am so excited!  Can't wait to learn some new skills and will obviously post my experience and hopefully some pics.

Ciao for now, won't leave it so long next time x
