Mr W is away working tonight so am just waiting for the photos of his lovely hotel food to come through by text. I was tres envious last week when he was having a carvery and I'd just had a jacket potato after a run. Mean hey?! I still love to see food photos though and the better hotels' give me inspiration for presentation (not my strong point, as you will surely see).
Firstly, here's a photo of the poached eggs that I mentioned in Monday's post - before and after I stuck my fork into the orange gooey yolk. Yum! Old Cotswold Legbar eggs - you won't go back.
I was a little naughty at lunch and had fries with my cajun chicken and roasted pepper sandwich and I have to say, not being a frequent fries/chip eater, they were very nice - very skinny and very crispy. The sandwich was ok but nothing to write home about. I went to the Black Dog Ballroom in Manchester's Northern Quarter with my new colleagues. It's quite a nice place but service was very slow for a big party - about 15 of us.
I generally avoid meat when I'm dining alone, mainly for health reasons and also because I can. Mr W would not be happy unless he got meat with his vegetarian food! My favourite is pasta with roasted vegetables, parmesan and herbs. This evening I chose spaghetti - I think it's my favourite pasta but one I avoid when dining out for obvious reasons. I roasted red and yellow peppers, courgettes, red onions, cherry tomatoes and fresh plum tomatoes in seasoned olive oil for about 45 minutes on 200 degrees. I cooked the spaghetti then drained it and mixed in the roasted veg and then added a little drizzle of basil oil. Some parmesan shavings, black pepper and torn parsley and basil and voila, done. Sometimes the simple things are the best. The fresh tomatoes make this dish - they cook down and provide a slight sauce to coat the pasta.
I have my induction at the gym tomorrow so not sure what we will be eating or if it's worth posting but we shall see.... Ciao for now.
About Me
- Feebs
- I'm a thirty something food-loving professional who has decided to write a food blog rather than bore my Facebook friends with my constant food updates and photos. I love food and cooking and wanted to share my recipes and experiences with fellow-minded people. I am no chef but enjoy good, hearty traditional fayre at home and the occasional treat away from home. I am learning all the time and this blog will hopefully see my skills improve over time. It is documenting my progress if you like and giving me some motivation to improve.
