About Me

My photo
I'm a thirty something food-loving professional who has decided to write a food blog rather than bore my Facebook friends with my constant food updates and photos. I love food and cooking and wanted to share my recipes and experiences with fellow-minded people. I am no chef but enjoy good, hearty traditional fayre at home and the occasional treat away from home. I am learning all the time and this blog will hopefully see my skills improve over time. It is documenting my progress if you like and giving me some motivation to improve.

Chilly Sunday

I'm still scarred from Sunday's roast, quite literally...the chicken fat spat at me when I took it out of the oven and I have two lovely burns on my chin which blistered and have now scabbed over.  Attractive!  Thank God for make-up.  I put ice on it straight away but still blistered :(

It was a nice roast though, couple of photos for you (there were plenty of potatoes and a mountain of chicken so don't think I was being stingy).  I did mashed carrots and swede, cauliflower, broccoli and parsnips - all organic from my Riverford box.  I can't praise Riverford enough and urge everyone to buy their veg boxes.  It keeps really well as it's obviously fresher than the supermarket rubbish and it tastes so much better.

I was just a little bit full still from my lunch, hence only two potatoes.  We didn't have our usual steak night on Saturday with me bringing curry home so I decided to have a fillet steak and onion baguette for lunch on Sunday.  I cooked the steak just how I like it (practically mooing) and sliced it, and fried some onions in butter.  It was the best steak sandwich I've ever had, not like the usual dried up chewy rump that you get in pubs and bars.

Delicious!  We then went for a walk in Lyme Park which had snow on the ground from Friday.  It was chilly but nice to have a brisk walk up to the folly and back.

Can't think of a better way to spend a Sunday - nice walk and great food! x
